Bruce Schmidt

Bruce “Butch” Allan Schmidt of Alexandria passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the age of 61 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Butch was born on July 2, 1956 in St. Paul, MN to Gordon and Pauline “Dolly” (Lucas) Schmidt. He graduated from Wabasso Public School in 1974 and went on to college at Alexandria, MN in the career of Carpentry. He began work as a job foreman for Great Plains Supply in Vesta, MN. In 1975, Butch married Alison (Anderson) in Walnut Grove, MN and made their first home in Lucan. They were blessed with two children, a daughter, Jamie and a son, Adam. In 1980 they moved to Villard and in 2008 to their home in rural Alexandria. Butch established his own company, B. Schmidt Construction, and along with his talented crew; built and managed construction of many beautiful homes in the surrounding Glenwood and Alexandria lakes area. Butch enjoyed woodworking, hunting with his White Tail Lodge buddies, fishing, motorcycles, muscle cars, classic rock music and his beloved dog and companion, Lilly. One of his favorite places to spend time was at the cabin on Fish Trap Lake, and being with family and friends. Butch is survived by his wife Alison; daughter, Jamie (Joe) Storms of Savage, MN; 3 grandsons, Zachary Walz, Matthew Walz and Gavin Storms; mother Dolly Schmidt of Alexandria; brother, Scott (Nadine) Schmidt of Alexandria; brother, Jeff (Joni Wendt) Schmidt of Prior Lake, and numerous relatives and friends. Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his son Adam; father Gordon Schmidt; parents in law, Ted and Laura Anderson and other loved ones who have gone before him. Private family services will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, MN and burial on a later date at Lake Leven Cemetery, Villard, MN. In lieu of flowers; donations will be given to a charity chosen by the family.
