Elaine Marie Mullen, the daughter of Wencil and Mildred (Malmberg) Bruzek, was born on May 19, 1926 on the farm in Lake Mary Township, MN.  She was raised on the farm and attended country school in District #13 until the eighth grade.  She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Reno Township.  Elaine continued her education in Alexandria and graduated from Central High School in 1945.

In 1949, Elaine was asked for her hand in marriage from the boy she met in high school.  On June 14, 1949, Elaine and Philip were united in marriage at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church.  They made their home in Alexandria where they attended the Church of St. Mary and raised their two daughters, Mary Colleen and Anita Kay.

Elaine worked at First National Bank in Alexandria for 27 years.  She retired in May of 1988, and then enjoyed traveling with her husband around the United States.  She also enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and staying at home.  Elaine was an excellent cook and always had food ready for guests and family when they visited.  She was a gentle, gracious, loving yet strong woman, who always looked for the good in people.  She will be forever in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved her.

Elaine M. Mullen died on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Bethany on the Lake in Alexandria at the age of 91 years old.  She is survived by her daughter Anita Anderson; of Alexandria; step Grandchildren, Maureen and Randy Winger and their children, Madalyn and Gage, Daniel and Kathy Anderson and their children, Jared and Trent, brother, Verlyn and Mayvis Bruzek and their children, Stacy and Sandeepan Banerjee, Brenda and Bob Jespersen, Jr. and Chad Bruzek; nieces and nephews, Michael and LaWanna Mullen, Patsy and Tom Waggoner and Lori and Ryan Hovey; and many grand nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Philip, daughter Mary, son in law Dale Anderson, and brother and sister in law Carol and Eugene Mullen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11 AM at the Church of St. Mary in Alexandria.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 4-6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  Casket Bearers are Michael Mullen, Patsy Waggoner, Brenda Jespersen, Chad Bruzek, Stacy Bruzek Banerjee, Randy Winger, and Dan Anderson.  Honorary Casket Bearers are Gary and Carol Zavadil and the Staff at Bethany On The Lake.  The family of Elaine Mullen would like to thank the Hospice of Douglas County and the staff at Bethany on the Lake for their compassionate and professional care they have give to Elaine and her family.
