Silas McCormack

Silas McCormack was born on August 24, 1929, in Morris, Minnesota, the son of Silas Sherman and Mary (Tschudi) McCormack.  He was a graduate of Morris High School.  While working at Max’s Bakery he met Betty Max. They started dating and on September 23, 1950, Silas and Betty were married at First Lutheran Church in Morris.

The couple made their home in Morris where Silas began a career as an Insuracne agent for MSI in 1953. He retired from the Insurance business in 1998. He and Betty enjoyed playing bridge, traveling throughout the United States and dancing together.  Silas’s  favorite acitivites included fishing, hunting, and playing pool at the senior center.   He was a member of Lions Club, the Eagles Club and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Silas died on Thursday, February 8, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family.  He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons: Major (Paula Donath), Bruce (Laura) and daughter, Pat (Craig) Swenson; six grandchildren: Mark McCormack,  Mary Suchy, Shawn Swenson, Blake Swenson, Maggie McCormack, Mindy McCormack-Fisher; four great grandchildren: Parker Swenson, Paxton Swenson, Malachi Fisher, Ariana Fisher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas Sherman McCormack and Mary (Tschudi) and sister Rose Nelson.

Visitation will be on Sunday Ferbruary 11, 2018 at Anderson Funeral Home from 2-4pm and the Masonic Service will begin at 3:30pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 11:00am at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria  with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Summit Cemetery in Morris.  Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
