Adeline Lillian (Tvrdik) Kalina was born on December 19, 1923 in Lake Mary Township, Douglas County, Minnesota to Joseph and Antonia (Dynda) Tvrdik. She attended country school in District 13 thru the 8th grade. Adeline then worked on the family farm and helped at various neighbors cooking, cleaning and attending to children. She also enjoyed her free time by going swimming in Lake Andrew. On June 1, 1948, Adeline was united in marriage to LeRoy Kalina at the First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple then moved to LeRoy?s home place and were blessed with three children, Nancy, Marilyn and Larry. Adeline worked side by side with LeRoy doing the daily chores, which included; milking, feeding chickens and fieldwork. She also was a wonderful cook and ?lunch was always on? whether it be for the farm helpers, repairmen, or the family and friends that were over. Adeline enjoyed company and expected to either be going somewhere or having someone over on Sunday afternoons. She also enjoyed, gardening, canning, flowers, baking birthday cakes, making kolaches, sewing and making quilts. Adeline died on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at her home at the age of 84. She is survived by her loving husband, LeRoy of Alexandria; daughter, Marilyn (John) Schmidt of Alexandria; son, Larry (Kimberly) Kalina of Garfield; six grandchildren, James (Tammy) Schmidt, Jason (Theresa) Schmidt, Josh Schmidt, Misty Kalina, Mikia Kalina, Nikita Kalina; great-grandchildren, Adelina Schmidt, Marilee Schmidt, and Gracie Schmidt; brothers, Daniel (Evelyn) Tvrdik of Alexandria, Eugene Tvrdik of Glenwood, Jerry Tvrdik of Alexandria, and Lawrence (Gwen) Tvrdik of Alexandria; brother-in-law, Wayne Ganske of Villard. Sister-in-laws: Rosie (Maynard) Chan of Lowry, Reanie Mrnak of Alexandria. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Antonia; infant daughter, Nancy Kalina; sister, Joan Ganske; brother-in-law, Robert Mrnak; sister-in-laws, Leona Tvrdik and Patricia Tvrdik. A funeral service was held on Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend John Peshek officiating. Music was provided by Randy Morken as organist and Bruce Wagner as the soloist. Interment was held in the Bohemian Independent Cemetery in Lake Mary Township. Casket bearers were Adeline?s grandchildren, James Schmidt, Jason Schmidt, Josh Schmidt, Misty Kalina, Mikia Kalina, Nikita Kalina. Honorary Casket bearers were Adeline?s great-grandchildren, Adelina Schmidt, Marilee Schmidt, and Gracie Schmidt.
