Adeline Selma (Haugrud) Roth was born on August 8, 1923 in Rollag, MN to James and Bertha (Hofstad) Haugrud. She was baptized and confirmed at Rollag Lutheran Church. Adeline attended Country School District 14 near Rollag and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School. Adeline attended Moorhead Teachers College for one year after which she started teaching. She continued her education attending summer school at Moorhead Teachers College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree. Adeline taught in both rural schools and Hawley High School before moving to Alexandria in 1950 after accepting a teaching job at Central High School.
Adeline was united in marriage to Norman Roth on October 4, 1953 at Rollag Lutheran Church. To this union the couple was blessed with three children. Adeline put her teaching on hold and stayed home with her children. Adeline returned back to teaching in 1968 and did private tutoring for students and later retired in 1988.
Adeline and Norman made many road trips to many different parts of the country. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, hosting and entertaining people at their home, playing bridge, reading, her kitties, watching the Minnesota Twins, writing letters and her hats. Most importantly she loved her husband, children and grandchildren.
Adeline died on Monday, December 1, 2014 at Grand Arbor at the age of 91. She is survived by her loving husband, Norman of Alexandria; son, Ronald Roth of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Roberta (David Ashworth) Roth of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Marissa and Jason Roth; sister, Beverly “Kiddo” (Arvo) Wibe of Hitterdahl; and many nieces and nephews. Adeline is preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha, son, Robert Norman; and brother, James Haugrud.
A memorial service was held on Friday, December 5, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend David Hinz and Geoff Gronewold officiating. Inurnment was at Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
