Agatha Porter

Agatha Catherine Klimek was born January 28, 1918 in Leaf Mountain Township, MN, the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Loeffler) Klimek. She was raised at Urbank, MN and attended the Freske one room schoolhouse. Following her schooling Agatha worked as a seamstress. On April 22, 1941 Agatha was joined in marriage to Melvin Porter in Alexandria, MN. For the next seven years the couple made their home in California while Melvin served in the armed forces during World War II. Agatha worked for the Heinz Coffman Co. helping build radar equipment for the war effort. The couple was blessed with four children, Bonita, Valeria, Nancy and Robert. In 1948 they moved to St. Cloud, MN, then to Hibbing, MN in 1952 and Babbitt, MN in 1956. Following Melvin?s death in 1976 Agatha returned to Alexandria to be closer to her family. Five years ago Agatha moved to Sauk Rapids. Agatha enjoyed spending time sewing, knitting, crocheting and doing macram�. She loved gardening, both vegetables and flowers and enjoyed caring for her indoor plants. Agatha baked for her family and friends; she was known for her cookies and baked beans. Mary was a member of the VFW Post 936 Auxiliary and St. Mary?s Church. On Tuesday, February 17, 2009 Agatha died at the age of ninety-one years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Porter; and four bothers, Myron, Werner, Arnold and Emmett Klimek. Agatha is survived by her children, Bonita Porter Treanor of Oakdale, MN, Valeria Porter Crushshon of St. Paul, MN, Nancy Lake and husband, William, of Nashwauk, MN and Robert Porter and wife, Brenda, of St. Cloud, MN; grandchildren, Jeremy Lake, Dion Crushshon, Michelle Crushshon Presley, Therese Thomas, Jennifer Graner, Amanda Platt, Nicole Treanor, Jessie Skaj and Heather Crosthwaite; great grandchildren, Michael Crushshon Yarbrough, Robi Michael Crushshon, Niamia Michael Crushshon, Jessie Lake, Bailey Thomas, Kole Platt, Gavin Platt, Bradyn Janish-Lake, Dylan Crosthwaite and Wyatt Crosthwaite; two great great grandchildren, Michael Yarbrough, Jr and Ameleon Yarbrough.; her sister, Betty Schroeder of Long Prairie and her brother, Elwin Klimek and wife, Marvel, of Babbitt, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, February 21, 2009 at St. Mary?s Church in Alexandria. Reverend Father Fred Fink was the celebrant. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Honorary pallbearers included Michael Yarbrough, Jeremy Lake, Dion Crushshon, Jessie Lake, Bailey Thomas, Kole Platt and Gavin Platt. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
