Agnes Prchal

Agnes Margaret Yanda was born September 11, 1920 in Hudson Township, MN, the daughter of Frank Sr. and Anna (Brezina) Yanda. She was raised in Hudson and attended school in District 3. Agnes graduated from Alexandria High School. On November 30, 1938 Agnes was united in marriage to Edward Prchal. The couple purchased a farm from Ed?s parents and made their home on it. In 1968 they sold most of their farm when Interstate 94 divided it. The Barn at the Holiday Inn was the original Prchal barn. Ed and Agnes kept a corner of land south of the Interstate where they built a home for themselves. After Ed?s death in 2003 Agnes continued living at home. Agnes and Ed enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. They made many road trips to see America. The couple also spent winters in Florida and Texas. Agnes enjoyed doing embroidery, crocheting and craftwork. Agnes and Ed would walk a path behind their home, three miles a day in any weather. They were also very proud of their home and worked hard to make it nice. After Ed?s death Agnes continued to mow the lawn on a riding tractor. Agnes also loved gardening and kept a very large flower and rose garden in her backyard. She raised vegetables too, which she often gave away to neighbors and family. Agnes enjoyed baking and was known for her kolaches. Agnes was a very independent woman. On Friday, May 7, 2010 Agnes died quietly at her home at the age of eighty-nine years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Prchal, her brother, Frank Yanda, Jr. (2006); and her sister, Lillian Gerdes (1988). Agnes is survived by her niece, Carolyn Chlian and husband, John, of Forada, MN; great nephews Brian Chlian and fianc�e, Sara Froemming and Jeffrey Chlian and wife, Holly; great niece, Patricia Bengford and husband, Craig; great great niece, Addison; great great nephews, Mitchell and Wyatt; and two god children, Dorothy Hlinsky and Irene (Frank) Pronek A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the First Congregational Church in Alexandria. Reverend Scott Keehn will officiate. Music will be provided by Diane Alveshere. Interment will follow in the Lake Mary Cemetery. Pallbearers included Jane Johnson, Karen Slom, David Johnson, Kolleen Roth and Keith Norling. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
