Alfred Garmon

Alfred C. Garmon was born August 2, 1930 in San Angelo, TX to William and Gladys (Smith) Garmon. He was raised in San Angelo where he graduated from high school in 1948. Following his schooling Al joined the United States Navy where he met Pauleen Lemke. While in the Navy al served in Korea and also served with the VA-55 attack squadron. He was dis charged in November 1952. Al and Pauleen were joined in marriage in May 1953 in Alexandria, MN.
Al continued his education at Northrup CA. Al worked as an engineer for the General Electric Jet Division out of Ohio. His job took him to many places including the Far East and Europe, which he enjoyed.
Al retired in 1990 and loved living by the lake in Alexandria during the summer and spending winters in Texas. He loved to play golf with his family and friends; he hit his “hole-in-one’ in Texas. Al loved his sons very much and enjoyed spending time with them. Whenever he could Al would go on trips with Mark and Bryan. They enjoyed time spent together fishing.
On Friday, October 10, 2014 Al died at the age of eighty-four years. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Bryan Garmon; his parents; two sisters, Wanda Pillsbury and Judy McCorn; and four brothers, Lee Roy, William, Jr., Charles and James Garmon. Al is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Pauleen Garmon; son Mark Garmon and wife, Jeanne; step-son, Shawn Garmon; sisters, Mary Cone and husband, Allen, Leah Achenbach and husband, Lloyd; Pypper Namikas and husband, Robert, Courtney Dukowitz and husband, Donnie, Austin Garmon, Michelle Garmon; and great grandson, William Namikas.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at First Lutheran Church. Reverend Greg Billberg will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Gladen and Randy Morken. Interment will follow in the Kinkead Cemetery. Casket bearers include all of Al’s grandchildren. Honorary casket bearers include Larry Nygaard, Allen Cone, Erv McWilliams and Ed Riewe. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 235 and the Minnesota National Guard.
