Alfred Peter Minnerath, the son of Peter and Elizabeth (Schmitt) Minnerath, was born in Cold Spring, Minnesota on March 20, 1931. He grew up on a farm in Cold Spring and attended country school through the eighth grade. Al joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in England during the Korean War. He honorably served his country from 1951-1954. Al returned to Cold Spring and worked in road construction, starting his own company in 1971, Al Minnerath, Inc. which later became Central Specialties, Inc. Al was passionate about his business, and even in retirement, Al loved to visit job sites.
Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. He also enjoyed cooking for his family, especially his well-loved potato pancakes, pork roast, and chili. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him best.
Alfred P. Minnerath died on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at 91 years of age. He is survived by his children, Kevin (Barbara) Minnerath of Alexandria, Steve (Kirsten) Minnerath of Cave Creek, AZ, Michael (Elena) Minnerath of Cabool, MO, Marcie (Mark) O’Neill of St. Michael, Joe (Dee) Minnerath of Alexandria, Jeanne (Paul) Minnerath of Winona, Brian (friend Jennifer Murch) Minnerath of Alexandria, John (fiancé Candy Patrick) Minnerath of Alexandria, Allan (Jean) Minnerath of Alexandria, and Amy (Eric) Minnerath-Peterson of Albertville; daughter-in-law, Deb Minnerath of Alexandria; 34 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian (Toby) Minnerath; infant daughter, Michelle Minnerath; son, Jim Minnerath; great grandson, Hayden Minnerath; and 10 siblings. Al was also preceded in death by the mother of his children, Rose Mary.
A visitation will be held at Anderson Funeral Home on Friday, February 17, 2023, from 4-7 PM and Saturday, February 18 from 9-10 AM.
A funeral service will be held at Anderson Funeral Home at 10 AM on Saturday.
Full Military Honors will be accorded by the Minnesota Air Force Honor Guard, American Legion Post #87, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #936, Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter #235, Marine Corps League Detachment #1409.
Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria will follow the funeral service.
All are welcome to a luncheon at the VFW (1102 3rd Ave. E., Alexandria, MN) after Saturday’s service to celebrate Al’s life.
