Alfred Nelson

August 25, 1945 — March 17, 2018

Alfred “Al” Nelson was born on August 25, 1945 in Pequot Lakes, the son of Rudolph and Marie (Christiansen) Nelson.  He grew up on a farm near Pequot Lakes and then the family bought a little country store called Maple Leaf Store.   Al graduated from High School in Pine River.

In 1977, Al moved to the country outside of Garfield and worked for Land O’Lakes in Alexandria and then in Perham when the plant closed in Alexandria.  During this time he played softball for the Land O’Lakes team and was their pitcher.  He also worked for the Recycling Plant in Alexandria.

Al will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man who would do anything for anyone and never want anything in return.  He was an animal lover especially cats, dogs and horses.  Al also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a wonderful cook.  He had a huge garden and did a lot of canning.

Al died on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at his home.  He is survived by his sisters: Rose Marie (Marvin) Shequen of Glenwood, Pat Schroers of Burnsville; nieces: Donna (John) Collins of Pine River, Deborah (Guy) Wilts of Lakeville, MN; nephew, Mike Schroers of Burnsville; several great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Tom.

Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home with a visitation one hour prior.  Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.   www.andersonfuneral.net
