Alger “Al” Iverson was born on February 20, 1928, in Lien Township, Grant County, Minnesota to Nicholai and Anna (Neitzel) Iverson. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Barrett, MN. Al attended school in Lien Township through the 7th grade. He then helped on the family farm until he was 18, when he started helping farmers around the Carlos/Belle River area.
Al was united in marriage to Shirley Beulke on January 27, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Carlos. The couple lived in Sartell and Al worked for Paulsen Plastering. They moved back to Carlos in 1968, and Al drove to Sartell to continue working for Paulsen Plastering then later worked for Franklin Manufacturing building refrigerators and freezers. Al later worked for Buttweiler’s Do-All for 15 years, and spent a few years working with his cousin, Don Nack building homes. The last few years before retirement was spent working a custodian at the Elementary School in Elbow Lake. Shirley died on August 20, 1997. Al married Elsie Breuhm in June, 1999, and Elsie passed in February of 2016.
Al enjoyed woodworking, making decorative scroll saw plaques and knick knack shelves and loved to tinker in his workshop. He enjoyed trapping muskrats as a kid. Al enjoyed fishing, traveling out East and West and visiting his son, Kevin at the National Parks he worked at.
Al died on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at the Ecumen Parmly Nursing Home in Chisago City, MN at the age of 89. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Cleveland of Elbow Lake; son, Kevin (Michelle) Iverson of Amery, WI; grandchildren, Shanna (Justin) Dowdy of Elbow Lake; brother, Leslie (Ada) Iverson of Winona; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Al is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholai and Anna; wife, Shirley and second wife, Elsie; brother, Howard; sisters, Margaret Kjeldahl, Marion Aarhus, and Louise Pionk.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Carlos. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM with a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM on Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Anderson Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
