Alice Helen (Teigen) Harms was born on July 11, 1921 to Helge and Hilda (Sanden) Teigen in Pelican Rapids, MN. She attended school in Pelican Rapids and was baptized and confirmed at Grove Lake Church in Pelican Rapids. On November 1, 1941 Alice married Melvin G. Harms. The couple farmed in the Audubon, MN area until 1974. They moved Alexandria and lived there until the present time. Alice worked as a Nursing Assistant at Sunnyside in Lake Park, Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes and Knute Nelson in Alexandria. Alice enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, and making afghans for family. She was a good cook and baker, and was proud of her Norwegian Heritage. Alice enjoyed visiting and always had time for socialization. She rarely complained and if you asked her how she was, she would say ?Pretty good for an old lady?. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Alice passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 89. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Melvin; children, David (Kay) Harms of Lake City, MN, Sharon (Kenneth) Kruger of Phoenix, AZ, Roger of Columbus, OH, and Sheila (DeLos) Snelson of ElMirage, AZ; and Brother DuWayne (Wilma) Teigen of Vergas, MN; 11 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, Kermit and Raymond and a Grandson Paul Kruger A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Greg Billberg officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date at First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Audubon, MN. Honorary urn bearers are Alice?s grandchildren. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
