Allard Lundgren

Allard Rodney Lundgren was born on October 16, 1922 in Moose Lake, MN to Arthur and Ida (Nelson) Lundgren. The family moved to Alexandria where Allard grew up and graduated from Alexandria High School in 1941 where he excelled in athletics. He continued his education at Gustavus College until enlisting in the Merchant Marines in WWII. He traveled the world during the war and was discharged from the military in 1945. Upon returning to the States, he began working at JC Penney?s in Mankato, Minnesota, where he met Phyllis Rohlik. They were married in Seaforth, Minnesota in 1950. They resided in the Mankato, St. Cloud area and Williston, ND before building their family home on Lake Latoka in Alexandria in 1957. Allard worked as a plaster and stucco contractor in the Alexandria area for over 40 years. He took pride in the quality of his work and the longevity of his projects. Throughout his lifetime, Allard was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. On August 19, 2013 Allard passed away at Bethany Nursing Home at the age of 90. He is survived by his six children: Kathy LeSage of Redwood Falls; Coleen (Steve) Gullickson of Starbuck; Mark (Lisa) Lundgren of Luverne; Mary (Joel) Paulzine of Villard; Gary Lundgren of Alexandria; Chris (John) Young of Cold Spring, 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Phyllis, his parents Arthur and Ida, sister Florine and brothers Donald and Elwood, grandson Mitchell and family friend Spec Strom. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 24, 2013 at 10AM at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria with Father Steve Binsfeld officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2013 from 5-8PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Allard?s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The Alexandria American Legion Post #87 accorded military honors. Arrangements by the Anderson Funeral Home.
