Allen "Sonny" Christopherson

September 7, 1938 — April 3, 2022

Alexandria

Allen “Sonny” Christopherson was born on September 7, 1938, in Alexandria, Minnesota the only child of Will and Beulah (Bundy) Christopherson.  Sonny grew up in Alexandria at his family’s bait shop and spent a lot of time with Grandma and Grandpa Bundy on the farm.  His love of the outdoors and love of animals started here.  He attended Alexandria High School and graduated in 1956.  Allen moved out to Utah where he attended BYU.  During his time in college Allen was a downhill ski instructor which he enjoyed.  He also met his wife Kathy while attending BYU and the couple was married in Midway, Utah in 1961.

After their marriage the couple moved to Alexandria.  During this time Allen taught Biology in Dassel, MN and worked on his Masters Degree in Biology at St. Cloud State.  In the early 1970’s he retired from teaching and worked full time at the family Bait Shop.  Allen and Kathy raised their family on a small hobby farm right next door to his parents.   During this time Allen enjoyed snowmobile racing and was a Certified Diving Instructor.  He would help local law enforcement on Search & Rescue in the 1970’s and early 1980’s.

In 1985 his wife, Kathy died of lymphoma.  In March of 1986 he married Susan Wilson.  The couple combined the two families together.  Susan died in December of 1994 due to injuries from an automobile accident.

Sonny enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and his kids, fishing, gardening, hunting, painting ducks, taking pictures, traveling, and visiting with customers at Christopherson’s Bait.  He appreciated nature and all the beauty around him.  He was a man who just loved life.  His last full sentence was, “Well I lived another day!”.

Allen died on Sunday, April 3, 2022.  He is survived by his children: Holly (Raimo) Hansen, Brian (Nancy) Christopherson, Lee (Konnie) Christopherson, Denise (Dana) Freese, Scott (Virgie) Christopherson, Jennifer (Adam Stoecker) Eckel; step children: Treva Pena, Trevor Wilson, Clarinda (Jeff) Dodson, Corey (Lina) Wilson; 23 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.
