Alma Stene a resident of the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mountain Lake, Minnesota formerly of Brandon, Minnesota died on September 26, 2009. Alma was born on September 11, 1904, the daughter of August (Spike) and Mathilda (Tillie) Miller in Hartland, Minnesota. The Millers moved to Brandon, Minnesota in 1920. Alma was united in marriage to Eldor Stene on February 21, 1925. She worked as a telephone operator for Gardonville Telephone Co. for many years. Then at the Brandon Post Office until retiring. Alma was active in the Chippewa Lutheran Church and liked making quilts, crocheting, embroidering and rugs. She was well known for her letter writing. Alma moved to Mikkelson Manor in Windom in 1997 for two years and then to the Good Samaritan Home in Mountain Lake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldor in 1980 and her parents; brothers, Archer (Horence) Miller, Osmer Miller; sister, Helen (Lloyd) Liane and Odie Holstad. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Holstad of Northwood, IA; son, Eugene (Janice) Stene of Alpha, MN; six grandchildren, Patty (John) Hanson, Jody (Noreen) Stene, Joey Stene, Jay (Andrea) Stene, Jed Stene, and Julie (Todd) Moller; seven great-grandsons; Cody, Ole, Gunther, Erik, Forrest Stene, and Matthew and Andrew Moller; six great-granddaughters, Truda Hanson, Elsa Hildebrandt, Amber Autumn, Carolyn Stene, and Crystal Blackmoor; two great-great-grandchildren, Lillian and Brendon Blackmoor. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at the Chippewa Lutheran Church in Brandon with Reverend Todd Klemme officiating. Musio was provided by Diann Guenther and Marcia Bolin. Interment was in the Chippewa Lutheran Cemetery. Casket bearers were Matthew Moller, Dale Holstad, Lynn Rossom, Dean Plaster, John Lund, Jody Stene. Honorary casket bearers were all the friends of Alma. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
