Alvin Krueger

Alvin Winfred Krueger was born on April 7, 1928 in Alexandria, MN the son of William and Ernestine (Wussow) Krueger. Alvin attended grade school until the eighth grade in Ida Township and then helped his parents on the farm. On November 24, 1950 he was drafted into the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. Alvin received an Honorable Discharge in 1954. After the war he returned to Alexandria and helped local farmers in their fields and on their yards.
Alvin met Verdell Freudenberg at a dance in Miltona. She became the love of his life and after dating for over a year they were united in marriage on December 10, 1955 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley. They began their life together by living in St. Cloud, where Alvin worked for Franklin Refrigeration. They soon moved back to the Alexandria area to farm with his dad and brothers Palmer and Delbert near Leaf Valley. Alvin and Verdell retired and sold their farm in 1993 and then moved to Alexandria.
Alvin was very proud of his time in the United States Army. He belonged to the American Legion Post # 87 for 55 years and he was also a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 936 serving as Commander from 1974-1975 and on the VFW House Committee for many years. Alvin was involved with his community for many years by serving as a board member for a small country school, Gardenville Telephone, Shipping Association, Leaf Valley Creamery, Garfield Elevator, Trustee at Ebenezer Lutheran Church and an Honor Guard for the VFW and the American Legion. He was an avid bowler. He enjoyed fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins. Alvin even worked a couple seasons at the Douglas County Fair taking tickets, although Alvin worked hard he always made time for his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Alvin W. Krueger died on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 88 years old. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Verdell Krueger of Alexandria; his sons, Orvin (Susan) Krueger of Garfield and Leland Krueger of Alexandria; daughter, Jeanine (Rick) Larson of Alexandria; six grandchildren, Heather Krueger of Alexandria, Amanda (Laif) Rognlin of Fargo, ND, Kaylee Krueger of Alexandria, Phillip and friend Sara Schmidt of Fargo, Ashley Larson of Alexandria and Heidi Larson of Alexandria; two great grandchildren, Adrian and Kathryn Dahlen of Colorado City, CO (children of Heather); family friend, Mary Krueger of Colorado City, CO; brother, Palmer (Lucy) Krueger of Garfield; sister, Margine Norling of Garfield; sister-in-law, Leola Krueger of Alexandria; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Delbert Krueger, sister Darlene Krueger, and brother-in-law Romaine Norling.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend David Hinz officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday May, 27, 2016 at the Anderson Funeral home from 4-7 PM for family and friends. Interment will be in Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in Leaf Valley, MN. Casket Bearers are Heather Krueger, Amanda Rognlin, Laif Rognlin, Kaylee Krueger, Phillip Krueger, Ashely Larson, and Heidi Larson. Honorary Caseket Bearers are Adrian Dahlen, Kathryn Dahlen, Sara Schmidt, and Mary Krueger. Military Honors will be performed by the American Legion Post #87, VFW Post # 936, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #235, and the Minnesota National Honor Guard.
