Alyce Kjos

b. December 11, 1912

Alyce Amundson was born December 11, 1912 in Boyd, MN, the daughter of Albert and Oline (Nelson) Amundson. She was the youngest of three. Alyce lived on a farm in Lac Qui Parle County. Alyce attended school district 56. She and some neighbor friends walked three miles each way to and from school. Later, she was blessed with another brother, Sullivan; she became real buddies with him. As a teenager Alyce would help her mother with cleaning and baking, especially during the harvest and threshing. There were very few recipe books in those days; recipes were exchanged between friends. The Capper?s Farmer, a farm magazine, would often have recipes that Alyce and her friends enjoyed trying out. On May 24, 1938 Alyce was united in marriage to Allan Kjos. They made their home in Boyd where Allan ran an oil station and repair shop. Later the couple moved to Alexandria, MN where Allan worked at the Boat Works and at Johnson Pontiac as a mechanic. Alyce worked at Haber?s store, Woolworth?s and seventeen years at J.C. Penney Co. On Saturday, July 27, 2013 Alyce died at the age of one hundred years. She was preceded in death be her husband Allan, after sixty-three years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Clarence Amundson, Arthur Amundson and his wife, Irene, and Sullivan Amundson and wife, Elenor. Alyce is survived by her nephews, Michael Amundson, Dennis Amundson and wife, Julie, and Stanley Amundson and wife, Pam; and great nieces and nephews, Andria, Ryan, Robie, Sarah Kate, Chrissy and Heidi; and several loving friends from Alexandria. A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend Jerry Lannes officiated. Ron Anderson and Mark Graf provided music. Interment followed in the Sunset Cemetery at Montevideo, MN. Casket bearers included Sanford Olson, Dennis Lyngen, Dennis Amundson, Michael Amundson, Randy Kjos and Michael Kjos. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
