Anthony Frank “Tony” Rassat, age 84, of Osakis, MN, passed away on December 1, 2020 at Alomere Hospital in Alexandria.
Tony was born on June 1, 1936, at his family’s farm near Nelson. He was the only son of Oscar A. “Bud” Rassat and Marguerite M. (Schelin) Rassat. He had five sisters. Tony attended elementary school at Nelson Public School, and graduated from Jefferson Senior High in Alexandria, MN.
He married Mary Ann Guenther on October 1, 1955. They resided on a farm near Nelson and began raising a family. While farming with his father, he drove school bus and was a custodian for the Nelson Public School. He was also a milk truck driver for the Nelson Creamery. In 1967 he took over the family farm and began farming full time. He had a special touch with animals, whether they were dairy cows, hogs, horses, dogs or cats. He was excellent with machinery and took great pride in caring for all of his equipment.
Tony had many hobbies including antique cars, antique tractors, and his Harley. Perhaps more than anything else he enjoyed restoring many different types of antique plows. If he was not working or tending to some family function, it was a good bet that you could find him down in his shop tinkering with his latest project.
Tony was a friend to everyone he ever met. His soft, gentle manner and kind demeanor were immediately evident to anyone who was fortunate enough to know him. Tony had an infectious, genuine smile and an easy laugh. He had an admirable ability to truly appreciate the simple things in life. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. Tony was one of a kind... a connection to a simpler, better time. He loved his family, his friends and his community. Tony was a decent and humble man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He was a lifelong member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Nelson where he gave generously of his time and volunteered for many projects over the years.
Tony is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughters, Mickie (Jerry) Danelke of Hoffman, MN, Beverly (Bradley) Stowell of Sun Prairie, WI, Shelly (Jeff) Bluhm of Clear Lake, MN; and son, Andrew (Cammie) of Alexandria, MN; grandchildren, Sarah (Dale) Craig, Leaonna Norling, Ian Stowell, Nicole Stowell, Dalton Rassat, and Gabbie Rassat; great grandchildren, Brianna Craig, Morgan Craig, Quiyn Craig, Hailey Norling, Aaron Norling, Olivia King and Owen King.
