Ruth Arlene (Lundgren) Carlson passed away peacefully on February 1, 2018 at Knute Nelson at the age of 100. She was born in Warren, MN. on September 25, 1917 to August G. and Oline (Holan) Lundgren. She was always known to her family and friends as Arlene. Arlene was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of Warren. She graduated from high school and teachers training in Warren. She taught school in country schools for seven years, first in Argyle, MN. and then near Starbuck.
It was in Starbuck where Arlene met and married the love of her life, Adolph Carlson, in 1942. Shortly after their marriage, Adolph was drafted into the Army and served three years fighting in the South Pacific theatre. During his absence, their first son, Ronald, was born. After Adolph’s return, Richard was born, and after a long hiatus, they were blessed with the birth of twin sons, Brian and Brent.
Adolph and Arlene were members of Fron Lutheran Church and the Starbuck community for over 50 years. For many years Arlene taught Sunday school and release time. She belonged to the Ladies Aid and church circles, as well as the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, the Starbuck hospital and the American Legion Auxiliaries. Arlene enjoyed many interests, including knitting, crocheting, quilting and embroidery. Her beautiful hand stitched quilts are a lasting legacy to her family. She also loved crossword puzzles, bowling and watching baseball and basketball games.
Arlene was devoted to her family. She is survived by her children: Ronald (Linda) of Asheville, NC, Richard (Carolyn) of Alexandria, MN, Brian (Kathleen Corcoran) of Phoenix, AZ, and Brent (Karen) of Eden Prairie, MN, grandchildren A. Nicholas (Evelyn Chan), Jennifer (Ches) Wajda, Christian, Sara, Laura, Nora and Jana, great grandchildren Emelia and Alexander, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Adolph, siblings Agnes Olson, Ralph Lundgren, Helen Lundgren, Lloyd Lundgren, Norma Vansickle, Elizabeth Sorenson, and Una Mae Magoris, nephews John Thomas Magoris, Lynn Magoris and Greg Magoris, and niece Karen Armbruster.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2018, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Inurnment will be held at Fron Cemetery in Starbuck, MN
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the radio broadcast at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN.
