Arlene Ohland

April 3, 1928 — January 6, 2017

Memorial service will be Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Anderson Funeral Home at 1:00 PM. A visitation will take place that day from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.

Arlene Ohland was born on April 3, 1928 one of thirteen children to Charles and Caroline (Sturm) Schmidgall of Hancock, Minnesota. On May 28, 1947 Arlene married Myron Ohland, and to this union were born four children, Kathleen, Michael, Steve and Scott. The couple moved to Minneapolis, where Myron worked as a welder and Arlene tended the house and family. As the children got a little older, Arlene worked in a warehouse filling orders and waitressed at a restaurant.

In her free time, Arlene used her talent of sewing to create all of Kathleen's childhood clothing and other fabric masterpieces including, cross stitch. Arlene was always willing to play just one more game of Shang Hi rummy or sit and work on a puzzle. She enjoyed traveling all over the country with her family and friends. For fifteen years she and Myron lived in Florida part time.

Arlene loved to cook meals no matter how big or small for her family. She never said no to a shopping trip or a casino run. She was a caring and loving artistic woman, who liked everyone and was devoted to her family. Arlene was a fighter and that "Awesome Mom" that everyone wishes they had.

Arlene told her children she wanted to live at home and pass away in her sleep and this is just how it happened on Friday, January 6, 2017. She is preceded in death by her husband, Myron; her six sisters and four brothers. She leaves behind her children, Kathleen Sanders (Paul Swedin), Mike "Mickey" Ohland (Lynne Staver), Steve Ohland (Connie Gahafer), Scott Ohland (Kristin Checco); grandchildren, Jason (Kari) Sanders, Nicole (Tony) Yon, Sonia Graziani; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Talan Sanders, Julian, Henry and Walter Yon; sisters, Doris Strom and Anita Gayken.
