Barbara Anderson

OBITUARY Barbara Ann Anderson was born on December 6, 1951 in Alexandria, MN the daughter of Rudolph and Esther (Nelson) Hansen. She graduated from Evansville High School and then continued her education for two years at the Alexandria Technical School in the Legal Secretarial field. Barb began working for ?The Shopper? as an advertising designer and then with the Alexandria Echo Press. She worked for 32 years in the newspaper business and retired in 2007. Barb married Jerry Anderson on May 23, 1970 at the Lincoln Lutheran Church in rural Hoffman, MN. To this union two sons were born, Scott and Michael. Barb raised her family with lots of love. She spent many summer weekends with her family at the Red Rock Lake cabin where she enjoyed fishing and swimming. Barb was a member of Berea Lutheran Church in Alexandria where she was the church secretary for six years and also a Sunday school teacher. She also volunteered at Knute Nelson for two years. Barb was an avid reader, collected dolls and enjoyed puzzles. She liked gardening and being outdoors while she also enjoyed writing an occasional short story or children?s book. She was able to take trips to the Scandinavian Countries, Alaska, Colorado and New York. Her most recent vacations consisted of family fishing trips to Ely MN. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Barb A. Anderson died on Monday, February 21, 2011 at The Lakeland Hospice and Home Care in Fergus Falls, MN at the age of 59 years old. She is survived by her loving husband of 40 years Jerry Anderson of Alexandria; sons Scott (Kari) Anderson of Hoffman, MN; Michael Anderson and girlfriend Tori Nelson of Alexandria; brother Arland (Rosemary) Hansen of Georgia; sisters Dorothy (Bud) Helmen of Roseville, MN; Beverly (Julian) Nelson of Hoffman, MN; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Harold and wife Carol Hansen. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Berea Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Brad Soenksen officiating. Val Hanson played the organ and Allen and Myron Larson provided special music. Interment will be in the Lincoln Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hoffman.
