Barbara Jean Dougherty was born on April 16, 1932, the daughter of Wallace and Jessie (Herber) Dougherty. She was a graduate of Alexandria High School and attended St. Cloud Teachers College before transferring to the Minnesota School of Business where she received her degree. Barbara took night classes brushing up on Nurses Aide training and some more business courses.
She worked as a care giver for most of her life. Barbara took care of her parents for a few years before moving to the Twin Cities where she was a care giver for different people. In April of 1978, she moved to Rochester, MN where she cared for Judge Scanlan and a few other people working through Mayo Clinic Social Services.
While living in Rochester she was a member of the Calvary Episcopal Church where she was very involved. Barbara was in the church choir, taught Sunday school, was Youth Director of the Church for three years. She was also active in the Rochester Symphony and the Rochester Civic Theater. Barbara did a lot of volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, Red Cross, United Way.
Barbara died on Saturday, August 25, 2018. She is survived by her brother, Keith & wife, Crystal Dougherty of Alexandria.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, William Dougherty USN.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
