Barbara Rivers

Barbara Jean Rivers, daughter of Orville and Dorothy Schmidt, was born on April 13, 1952 in Morris, MN.  Barbara attended Herman High School and graduated in 1970. Shortly after graduation she married David Rivers and they had two children, Julie and Scott. The family moved to Blaine where they raised the children and resided for the next 41 years. Barbara worked as an auditor in the Target corporate office for 25 years and if it was up to her, it would have been longer.

She had a fascination with genealogy and loved to explore her family’s past. She enjoyed scrapbooking and crafts that mostly centered around family. Her favorite events of the year include her annual sister’s weekend and the bright fireworks on the Fourth of July. Anyone who met her would tell you about her great smile, positive attitude, and delicious caramels. Barbara was a great baker and provided treats for multiple events including the MS charity walk. Barbara loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchild.

Barbara is survived by her husband, David Rivers;  children, Julie (Doug) Kuehn of Eagan, Scott (Shannon) Rivers of Milaca; mother, Dorothy Schmidt of Perham; seven sisters and two brothers; grandchildren, John Rivers, Caiden Kuehn, Michael Rivers, Ailey Kuehn, Donovan Kelly, Torrey Hook; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Orville Schmidt.

Barbara passed away on June 10, 2022, at the Alomere Health facility in Alexandria, MN at the age of 70.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 11 o’clock a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with a public visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the National MS Society: Upper Midwest Chapter.
