Barbara Elizabeth Waddell was born in St. Clair, MI on December 5, 1919 to Elvira Tornquist Waddell and Robert Waddell. Barbara studied at the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota School of Business. On May 14, 1949 Barbara was united in marriage to Leslie Edward Toleen in Virginia, MN. They were blessed with three children, John Richard, Cynthia and Nancy. Barbara worked at the Oliver Iron Mining Company which is a division of the US Steel Corporation and later the First Bank of Hoyt Lakes. Barbara worked for nineteen years as secretary to principal Dick Domanowski at the Boase Elementary School. Barbara enjoyed ice dancing, ballroom dancing and tap dancing. While in Destin, FL she was a member of the Golddiggers performing arts group. Barbara also liked to play bridge and go sailing. She kept fit and enjoyed the outdoors by walking, swimming and playing golf. Barbara was also a member of the Red Hat Ladies and Beta Sigma Phi. On Thursday, April 24, 2008 Barbara died at the age of eighty-eight years She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Richard Waddell. Barbara is survived by her husband Leslie Toleen of Glenwood Retirement Village; her son, John Richard Heath and his wife, Nancy, of Bessemer, AL; two daughters, Cynthia Casimiro and husband Ronald, of Hull, MA and Nancy Wirth of Steamboat Springs, CO. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Tyler Wirth and wife, Mariah, of Alexandria, MN, Lesley Wirth of Santa Monica, CA and Whitney Wirth of St. Paul, MN; and three great grandchildren, Bennett, Aurora and Jaxson Wirth. A memorial service will be held 3 PM, Saturday, May 17 at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN. Reverend Jim Gronewold will officiate. Becky Worley will provide music. Interment will be at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Pope County Hospice or Glenwood Retirement Village. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
