Bernice Gehlhar

Bernice was born on August 17, 1944, in Glenwood, Minnesota, the daughter of Arnold and Lorna (Cummins) Gehlhar. The family resided in the Villard area until 1954 when they moved to Alexandria. She graduated from Alexandria High School and furthered her education at the University of Minnesota. Bernice moved back to Alexandria and lived with her parents until her father?s death. She then resided at the St. Luke?s Home and the last few years she lived at the Birchwood Home. While living at St. Luke?s and Birchwood she made many friends among the staff and residents. Bernice enjoyed helping in the kitchen, doing needlepoint, tending the cats and visiting about her many friends. Bernice died on Sunday, November 23, 2008, at the Douglas County Hospital. She is survived by her uncle, Glen Cummins of Glenwood and several cousins and friends. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, 11:00 A.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Williams and Zach Dunham presiding. Pallbearers were Alden Springer, Lloyd Springer, Roger Quick, Joe Hardy, Richard Bullick, Doug Navratil. Burial was at the City Cemetery in Glenwood.
