Bernice VanWie

Bernice Elaine (Schneider) VanWie was born May 12, 1919 in Randall, Minnesota to Frank and Bertha (Gray) Schneider. She graduated from Little Falls High School. Bernice married John Achter and lived in Minneapolis. In 1958 they moved to Alexandria where she has made her home. John died in 1961. Bernice later married Leon VanWie and he died in 1994. Bernice died on March 6, 2009 at Knute Nelson in Alexandria at the age of 89. She is survived by her son, Jim (Diane) Achter of Minnetonka; step-sons, Steve VanWie of Arlington, TX and Joe (Eileen) VanWie of Marshall, MN; four grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Sarah Schneider and Marie Schneider. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bertha; first husband, John Achter; second husband, Leon VanWie; son, Richard Achter; and seven brothers and sisters. A memorial prayer was held on Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Merlin Bartelt officiating. A spring inurnment will take place in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria.
