Betty Jewell

Betty Marie Jewell, the daughter of Leslie and Edna (Miller) Smith was born on January 15, 1943 in Eagle Bend, MN.  She graduated from Parkers Prairie High School in 1962 and then attended Wadena Technical School for Cosmetology.  Betty married Calvin Jewell on May 14, 1966.  Two children were born to this marriage, Steven and Jonathan.  Betty owned and operated her own beauty shop for about 6 years in Alexandria.  She then began a new business Betty’s Day Care.  For 28 years, Betty lovingly cared for children becoming like a mother to many of those children.  Betty received an award for the “Best Childcare Worker” in 1998 before she retired in 2002 at the age of 60.

Betty had a huge heart and always made family get togethers fun and memorable.  She enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends.  She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Betty Marie Jewell died on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Alomere Health in Alexandria at the age of 76 years old.  She is survived by her sons, Steven Jewell of Alexandria and Jonathan (Amy) Jewell of Parkers Prairie; sisters, LaVonne (Edward) Hansen of Nelson, Judy Van Hee of Perham, and Gladys (Orville) Fenske of Ottertail; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Herbert Smith and brother-in-law, Greg Van Hee; niece Michelle Fenske and nephew Terry Fenske.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Martin Giese officiating.

A visitation will take place on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 4-6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Interment will be in the Parkers Prairie Cemetery.
