Betty White

August 2, 2016 — August 2, 2016

Betty Doris (Burnett) White was born on January 1, 1927 in Bayonne, New Jersey to Matthew H. and Ruey Mae (Hibbard) Burnett. Betty met the love of her life, Paul White, at Pinebrook Presbyterian Summer Camp in 1947. The couple was united in marriage on December 18, 1948. They had two children, Dale and Ruth, and three granddaughters, Kelsey, Jennifer, and Mallory. They lived in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and then in the Hershey's Mill Community of West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Betty enjoyed being a pastor's wife, and was well known and respected in the communities they lived. She also enjoyed volunteering for various organizations through the years, most notably the Philadelphia Presbyterian Homes for the Aged. Paul was the President of the Philadelphia Presbyterian Homes for the Aged from 1961-1992 and Betty played an instrumental role in the Homes through her volunteer work.
Betty lived a healthy, active life and enjoyed waking up every morning at 5:30 AM to exercise. She was a devoted and supportive wife and adored by her family and friends. Betty loved her family unconditionally and took excellent care of them. She was an exceptional homemaker and a classy woman. Betty loved interior decorating, shopping, getting her hair done, traveling with family, singing with her sisters, feeding the birds, taking care of animals, baking, knitting, playing cards, going to lunch with "the girls"and spending time on Maple Lake at the cabin. She had a great sense of humor and her life was full of laughter.
She spent her summers on Lake Champlain in South Hero, Vermont until 1988 when the couple bought a Log Home on Maple Lake in Alexandria, MN to be closer to their son, Dale. They spent every summer at Maple Lake and appreciated the kindness of the midwest people. They moved to an apartment in Stone Manor, Alexandria year round in 2013. Betty's friends in Alexandria were very important to her and helped her in many ways after Paul passed away on their 65th Wedding Anniversary, December 18th, 2013.
Betty died on Monday, August 1, 2016 in the loving care of Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, MN at the age of 89. She is survived by her son, Dale (Diana) White of St. Joseph; daughter, Ruth (Andre Jenny) Vessells of Galax, VA; granddaughters, Kelsey (Sven) Berg, Jennifer Vessells, and Mallory White; sister, Mildred Burn of Whiting, NJ; three nieces, Nancy Quinlan, Glenda Day, and Terri Waldron; one nephew, George Burn and a host of grandnieces and grandnephews.
Betty was predeceased by husband, Paul White; parents, Matthew and Ruey Mae; four brothers, Gerald, Donald, James and Melvin Burnett and five sisters, Ruth Burnett, Marian Barz, Jean Burnett, Claire Mallon, and Dorothy Burnett.
