Betty Zagar

October 1, 1925 — June 17, 2010

Zagar, Betty Jane (Fix) age 84, passed away peacefully under Hospice Care at Diamond Willow Advanced Care Assisted Living of Alexandria on Thursday, June 17, 2010. She was born October 1, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN to August and Helen (Kamiski) Fix. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from South High School in 1943. One of Betty?s first jobs was working in an aircraft assembly factory during WWII. Later Betty worked as a school cook at Epiphany School, Coon Rapids High School and Dayton Elementary. In 1980 she retired as the ?Head Cook? from Dayton Elementary. On May 20, 1946 Betty was united in marriage to Rudolph G. Zagar, Sr. at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Minneapolis for four years before moving in 1950 to Hanson Blvd. in Coon Rapids, MN where they raised their 8 children. After retiring they enjoyed 20 wonderful years together spending their summers on Swan and Leech Lakes, and their winters in McAllen, TX. In 2001 they returned to Minnesota year around to be closer to their family and enjoyed homes in Wadena, Sebeka and Alexandria, MN. Betty enjoyed music, dancing, traveling the world, playing cards and watching TV game shows. She was an avid Minnesota Twins and Viking fan and was at the Metrodome for Game 6 of the 1987 World Series: ?TWINS WIN?! Betty always carried a special place in her heart for all little children and it brought her great joy to hold them in her arms. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rudy of 59 years, her son Rudy Jr., her daughter Mary Noel, great grandsons Adam and Noah, and her entire Fix family consisting of her parents and three older brothers George, Walter and Ralph. She is survived by her children John (Toby) Zagar, Joan (Larry) Lobitz, Robert (Sarah Allen) Zagar, Katie (Tom) Nelson, Carol (Joe) Korte, Margie (Robert) Burns, nineteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Betty?s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the utmost professional and loving care given to her by Dr. Gagne and the Broadway Medical Center, Windmill Ponds, Mary?s Home Care, Hospice of Douglas County and Diamond Willow Advanced Care Assisted Living staff. We will forever be grateful to everyone at Diamond Willow who allowed Betty to live out her final days surrounded by dignity, laughter and love. Her wit and ?zingers? will be missed, but forever remembered in our hearts. A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, June 26, 2010 starting at 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Celebration of Life at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Alexandria, MN. Private family interment will be at the Nashwauk Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Reiser Relief Inc., (reiserrelief.org), St. Jude?s Children?s Hospital or Alzheimer?s Research. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN.
