Bonnie Jean Duncan was born March 29, 1947 in Winona, MN, the daughter of Clayton and Elaine (Anderson) Duncan. The Duncan family moved to Lisbon, ND in the 1950?s where Bonnie attended school. She graduated from Lisbon High School in 1965. She continued her education at the Wahpeton School of Science. On August 3, 1968 Bonnie was united in marriage to Harlan Karlstad, her high school sweetheart, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lisbon. They were blessed with three children, Eric, Jason and Mindee. Bonnie began raising her family at Hoffman, MN. In the early 1970?s the family moved to Dickinson, ND where she worked with Harlan at the Country Kitchen. In 1976 the Karlstads moved to Alexandria, MN and made their home on Lake Latoka. Bonnie worked at the Country Kitchen in Alexandria while Harlan managed the restaurant. In 1986 Harlan and Bonnie bought the Rainbow Court Restaurant, which they operated until 1992. They also owned and operated The Creamery, an ice cream store at the Viking Plaza. Bonnie was a good cook and enjoyed entertaining her friends and family. She enjoyed living on the lake and liked to go boating. Bonnie traveled the United States and loved site seeing. She went bicycling with Harlan often. In the past Bonnie played cards in a bridge group where she met many of her friends. Bonnie looked forward to Wednesday nights with the girls; these ladies were very special to her. Bonnie was also an avid reader. Her favorite pastime was shopping. Spending time with her family was very important to her. She loved her children and grandchildren. Most of all Bonnie loved the time she spent with Harlan. Bonnie died on July 9, 2013 while visiting her son in the Sacramento, CA at the age of sixty-six years. Her parents; her husband, Harlan Karlstad; and one brother-in-law, Danny Mairs, preceded her in death. Bonnie is survived by her; sons, Eric Karlstad and wife, Shelly, of Alexandria and Jason Karlstad and fianc�e, Joanna Weir, of Sacramento, CA; daughter, Mindee Suchy and husband, Jamie, of Alexandria; grandchildren, Bjorn and Bodin Karlstad, and Gretah Suchy, one sister-in-law, Joanne Mairs Kensinger and husband, Robert, of Alexandria; one great aunt, Lorraine Thompson of Lisbon; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, July 19, 2013 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Marilee Bergerson officiating. Music will be provided by organist, Randy Morken and special music by Karen Gladen. Honorary pallbearers include Denise Anderson, Judy Holscher, Andy Spoden, Karen Thul, Sue Raisanen, Bonnie Miller, Carol Barenz, Nancy Struck and Rita Stoltz. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
