Brian William Carlson was born October 22, 1969 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of George Athey and Rosalie Athey Carlson.  He was raised and schooled in Alexandria, MN. He attended Jefferson High School in Alexandria.

Brian worked several different jobs, primarily in construction and home repair. He worked for several years building silos before moving to New Mexico and later, to California. In the late 1990’s Brian was married and was blessed with three children. Adam, Makayla and Katheryn. After living for several years at Yankton, SD Brian moved back to the Alexandria area in 2013.

Brian loved and enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to spend time in the summer fishing. In his early years he enjoyed hunting.  Brian was a bit of a thrill-seeker; he loved riding motorcycles and working on cars.

On Tuesday, July 23, 2019, Brian died at the age of forty-nine years. He is survived by his parents, George and  Rosalie Athey; son, Adam Roeder and wife, Angie, of Osakis, MN; daughters, Makayla Mahowald of Glenwood and Katheryn Mahowald of Quantico, VA; granddaughter, Violet Roeder; sister, Lori Goergen and husband, Mike, of Plymouth, MN; step brothers, Tom Athey and wife, Lisa, of Milbank, SD, Patrick Athey of Big Stone City, SD and Kurt Athey and wife, Tammie, of Brookings, SD; and step-sister, Barb Van Hout and husband, David, of Milbank.

A funeral service will be held 1 PM Monday, July 29, 2019, at Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory in Alexandria with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home and Crematory in Alexandria. www.andersonfuneral.net
