Bruce Allen Couillard was born May 23, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Donald and Lorraine (Hero) Couillard. He was raised and attended school in Minneapolis. Bruce wanted to be in the United States Marine Corp. He succeeded in enlisting at the age of sixteen and became one of the youngest Sergeants ever in the Corp. Most of Bruce's service was spent in Santa Ana, CA. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, Bruce made his home in southern California.
Bruce received university degrees in computer science and electronics. I n 1977 Bruce was united in marriage to Rose Phillips. In California Bruce worked for the Savin Company delivering paper. He also was a bonded currency counter technician. He operated his own janitorial business and worked as a field technician for several retail companies. In 1996 Bruce moved his family to Minnesota and worked as a maintenance person. Most recently he operated and maintained seven rental properties.
Bruce enjoyed having a good time; he liked to drink beer and was fun to be around. Bruce enjoyed being around people and liked to see others having a good time. He enjoyed country music and attended WE Fest for many years. Bruce also enjoyed fishing in winter and summer; he looked forward to the yearly fishing trip to Lake of the Woods. He enjoyed watching sports and attending community events. Bruce was also very patriotic, he served God and Country.
On Saturday, June 18, 2016 Bruce died at the age of sixty-one years. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Gwendolyn Couillard and one brother, Scott Cook. Bruce is survived by his wife, Rose Couillard of Alexandria; sons, Chris Couillard of Glenwood, MN, Michael Couillard and wife, Karena, of Adams, NY, Daniel Couillard of Glenwood, and Shane Couillard of Wisconsin; grandchildren, Megan, Roger, Connor, and Marrissa; brothers, Kevin Cook, Dennis Couillard and Mike Couillard; and one sister, Vicki Youngquist.
A funeral service will be held 10 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Alexandria. Interment will follow on Thursday at 11:15 AM in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Casket bearers include Michael Couillard, Christopher Couillard, Kevin Cook, Kevin Cook, Jr., Dean Rohde and Daniel Couillard. Arrangements are with Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
