Carl W. Stanz Carl W. Stanz was born in Alexandria, Minnesota, on April 29, 1925, the son of Otto and Amanda ( Tonn) Stanz. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church and attended elementary school at the Zion Lutheran School. At the age of 18 Carl left Alexandria and enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country in the Pacific Theatre during World War II as a crewman on the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. The ship was in Tokyo Harbor at the time of the Japanese surrender. Upon his Honorable Discharge he was united to Florence Kraemer in 1948. The couple made their home in Alexandria where Carl first worked for the Gamble-Robinson warehouse and then at the Alex Farm and Home Supply Store. In 1968 he began his 20-year career with Alexandria Light and Power as a meter reader. Carl was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church his entire lifetime. He was a member of their choir and served on the Financial Committee for several years. Carl was also an avid fan of the Alexandria Cardinals and you would see him at every football and basketball game over the years. He also enjoyed fishing and telling jokes. Carl died on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, at the age of 85 years. He is survived by his wife Florence Stanz of Alexandria; children Connie Inman of Houston, TX, John Stanz of Alexandria, Gary (Vicki) Stanz of Alexandria, and Becky (Steve) Trainor of Alexandria; grandchildren Christa (Joe) Udelhofen, Maggie (Brian) Hubbling, Annie Stanz, Joshua (Tracy) Stanz, Robert (Laura) Stanz, Abby Trainor, and Adam Trainor. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Isaac Udelhofen, Willem Udelhofer, and Josie Hubbling and a niece Karen Ekdahl. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and son-in-law Steve Inman. Funeral services were held on April 28, 2011, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Minnesota, with Rev. William Moeller and Rev. Terry Finnern officiating. Music was provided by Irma Brockberg, , organist, and vocalists Dan Olson, Becky Trainor, and Vicki Stanz. Pallbeares were Joshua Stanz, Robert Stanz, Adam Trainor, Matt Lange, Brian Hubbling, and Joe Udelhofen. The granddaughters served as Honorary Pallbeares.
