Carol Neilsen

Carol Jenny (Ostlund) Neilsen was born on December 23, 1938, in Alexandria to Osten and Evelyn (Olson) Ostlund.  She graduated from Central High School in Alexandria.

Carol owned and operated Windjammer Resort on Lake Carlos, and the Red Garter Restaurant in Evansville.  She later started professionally for people and called it Carol’s House Cleaning.

Carol was united in marriage to Darrell Neilsen in 1998 at Christina Lake Lutheran Church in rural Melby.  The couple moved up to Platt Lake by Brainerd.  In 2008, the couple moved back to Alexandria.

Carol enjoyed the outdoors, hiking, golfing, and flower gardening.  She also loved her pets and often referred to them as her 4-legged kids.

Carol died on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at her home at the age of 81 under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.  She is survived by her husband, Darrell of Alexandria; daughter, Wendy Jo (Dan) Schaab of Hanover; three grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marlene Olson of Willmar.  She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Olson; granddaughter, Mandy Bitzan; parents, Osten and Evelyn; and brother, Bertil Ostlund.

A private committal service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria.
