On December 19, 1927, a little girl was born in Minneapolis to Edwin and Myrtle (Grahm) Kruekeberg and they named her Carol Ruth. From the very beginning she was a life giving spirit. She was baptized into the Christian faith at St. Peters Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Carol graduated from West High School in Edina in 1946. After graduation she worked in Minneapolis for the telephone company. She took classes in typing, shorthand and sales and marketing. Carol also attended the University of Minnesota and when asked what her major was she responded ?fun?. In 1948, Carol and a good friend ?Elenor? jumped in her Oldsmobile 98 convertible, and headed west to Rapid City, SD for her new life adventure. Carol met a young airman stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in 1951. His name was Raymond Stone and on April 19, 1952 they were married at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. In 1954, Ray and Carol were transferred to Bitburg Air Force Base in Bitburg, Germany. In 1955, a son, Stephen was born. Upon Ray?s discharge the young family moved to Satellite Beach Florida where Ray worked with the NASA missile program in photography. In 1969, the family moved to Alexandria, MN and purchased the home of her parents on beautiful Lake Carlos. In 1972, Carol went to work at the First National Bank in Alexandria in the advertising department and later was promoted to manager of the Viking Plaza branch location. In 1978 Carol returned to the downtown location as a customer service representative until her retirement in 1987. Carol?s hobbies included; her passion for music, reading and flowers and gardening. She was a longtime member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria. She will be remembered as a special friend and mentor to many as a fiercely, independent and deeply rooted in her Christian Faith. Carol Ruth Stone passed away peacefully Friday evening, May 17, 2013 at Knute Nelson at the age of 85. She is survived by her sister, Gloria Gillette of California; niece, Stephanie Thompson; nephew, Randall Johnson both of California; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Tony Cole of Georgia. Carol is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Myrtle Krekeberg; infant brother, Jimmy; husband Raymond; and son, Stephen Stone. A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria with Reverend Jerry Lanes officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Doug and Kellie Tatge and organist, Mark Graf. Eulogy was spoken by Michael Davis. Inurnment was in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Honorary urn bearers were the members of Joy Circle. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of Douglas County and the Douglas County Humane Society.
