Charles Erickson

August 5, 1935 — October 25, 2013

Charles (Chuck) Stuart Erickson was born on August 5, 1935; the tenth child of Emil and Inga (Skaare) Erickson of Glenwood, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church of rural Glenwood. Chuck passed away on October 25, 2013 with family by his bedside. Chuck graduated from Glenwood High School in 1953, Moorhead State University in 1957, furthering his education at SCSU and UND. Chuck married Jean Evenson on August 19, 1956 at Glenwood Lutheran Church. They began their teaching careers in Danube, MN. Chuck taught Industrial Technology and coached basketball. He joined the Army Reserves in 1958 and was honorably discharged in 1964. Chuck was extremely proud of his four sons; Scott (Kathy) of River Falls, WI, children Josh, Gabe (Tasha), and Melissa (In God?s hands); Craig (Chris), sons Brett (Mary), Bryan, and Mitch; Paul (Kathleen), daughters Avary and Alicia; Todd, daughter Ashley. Chuck treasured time with his boys, especially deer hunting in northern Minnesota. Chuck and family moved to Alexandria in 1967, where he again taught and coached. The family joined First Lutheran Church in 1967; Chuck served on the church council and Altar Guild. Chuck and Jean retired in 1991, enjoying nineteen winters in Arizona until Chuck?s health deteriorated due to lung disease. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Jean Erickson; brother Ron (Linda) Erickson of Minneapolis, MN; sister Alpha Finden of Glenwood, MN, along with many nieces and nephews. Chuck will be greatly missed by family and friends, as a quiet, loving, and sincere person. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11AM at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home from 4-7PM on Sunday and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Kinkead Cemetery. Military Honors were performed by the American Legion Post 87, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 936, and Minnesota National Guard Honors. Casket Bearers are Dale Serum, Dick Greengo, Eldon Shelstad, John Swanson, Darrel Magnuson, Dave Harris, and Stan Norlien.
