Charlotte Irene Johnson was born on May 8, 1931 one of four children to Edgar and Bertha (Mensinger) Johnson of Hoffman, Minnesota. When Charlotte was eight years old, her family moved to Garfield where she attended grade school and then later attended Central High School in Alexandria. She was a graduate from the first clerical class at the vocational school in Alexandria. As a young adult, Charlotte had various jobs to help support her family. She worked at the Maid Rite in Fergus Falls, candled eggs in Garfield, worked at Osterberg’s CafANLGAC. and JcPenney’s. After finishing her schooling, she worked at Alexandria Light and Power for twenty nine years until she retired.
In October of 1951, Charlotte married Curtis Granlund. To this union one child was born, Michael. Curtis passed away at a young age and on March 29, 1970, Charlotte married Luverne Ludwig. Together they raised their six children, Tom, Peggy, Kathy, Larry, Tim and Michael, on a farm. When she was not busy with her family or working on the farm, Charlotte enjoyed doing all forms of crafts and sharing her talents with others. She would make beautiful gifts by using her talent of Brazilian embroidering, knitting and cross stitch. She would make lap robes for veterans and prayer shawls for the local VFW organization. Charlotte was known as a puzzle master; she enjoyed playing cards, going to casino’s and was a fan of the game show network. Baking bars was her specialty, frequently trying new recipes and always having your favorite on hand when you went to visit her. She wintered in Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico and enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii, Alaska, Poland, and the Grand Canyon.
Charlotte died on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the age of eighty four. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Curtis Granlund and Luverne Ludwig; stepson, Tom Ludwig; and brother, Leroy Johnson. She is survived by Michael Granlund and wife, Sally, Peggy Hansen and husband, Allan, Kathy Brada and husband, Paul, Larry Ludwig and wife, Bev, Tim Ludwig and wife, Mari; brother, Bob Johnson and wife, Eleanor, sister, Joyce Martin, daughter in law, Arlene Ludwig; sister in law, Marge Gaebel and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
