OBITUARY Charlotte was born on January 28, 1927, in Cold Spring, New York, to Charles and Katherine (Robinson) Bullock. Charlotte graduated from Drew Seminary in 1943 and then graduated from Mary A. Burnham School in 1944. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Smith College in 1948. Charlotte received her Master of Arts degree in Education from Columbia University in 1950. Charlotte taught music at the high school level for two years and, in 1952, was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant. She met her husband, Gerhard Eric Berrum Sandberg, who was a pilot with the U.S. Navy, while she was stationed on Okinawa. Charlotte and Gerhard married on October 8, 1955, in Cold Spring, New York. During Gerhard?s 27 years in the Navy they lived in Whidbey Island, Washington; Pensacola, Florida; Oahu, Hawaii; Cupertino, California; Belleville, Illinois; and Corpus Christi, Texas. Gerhard and Charlotte moved to Alexandria in 1977. During her 35 years in Alexandria, Charlotte was involved in many different organizations. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church, serving on the church council for three years. She was a charter member of the Alleluia Ringers and rang handbells for over 20 years, was a past president of the Church Women, a Stephen?s Minister and a member of Deborah Fellowship Group. She was a member of the former Alexandria Euterpean Club, the Woman?s Club of Alexandria, and a member of P.E.O., Chapter AO, a philanthropic organization where women celebrate and support the advancement of women through education. Charlotte Bullock Sandberg, 85, of Alexandria, Minnesota, died on July 19, 2012. Charlotte is survived by two daughters, Katherine S. Hale of Austin, Texas, and Susan B. Sandberg and husband Kevin Lally of Austin, Texas, and one grandson Eric Hale of Denver, Colorado; a sister Helen B. Porter of Sacramento, California, and a brother Charles S. Bullock, Jr., and wife Susanne of New York, New York; a brother-in-law Paul E. Sandberg and wife Norma of Hoffman, Minnesota, and a sister-in-law Marvel Sandberg of Monticello, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gerhard E.B. Sandberg and parents Charles and Katherine Bullock. Donations may be made to either Smith College, scholarship fund, 33 Elm Street, Northampton, MA 01063 or First Lutheran Church, handbell choir, 822 Douglas Street, Alexandria, MN 56308. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, July 23, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Marilee Bergerson officiating. Interment was in the Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria, MN. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
