Christian Lorsung

December 10, 1915 — December 3, 2016

Christian John Lorsung was born December 10, 1915 in Millerville, MN, the son of John Peter and Katie (Klimek) Lorsung. Chris was baptized and confirmed at the Church of Our Lady of the Seven Dolors in Millerville where he remained a lifelong member. Chris attended school through the eighth grade in Millerville.

Following his schooling Chris did work around the house to help his family. He played town baseball for Millerville and worked at the Millerville Creamery. He later worked for Syvrud Motors in Alexandria, MN. On November 6, 1940 Chris married Cordelia Dobmeyer at Our Lady of the Seven Dolors. The couple was blessed with three children, Ferdinand, William, and Paul.

In 1941 Chris moved his family to Minneapolis and took a job with Northwest Airlines as a parts inspector and mechanic where he worked until 1978. While at Northwest Chris became well known for his meticulous care regarding the maintenance of aircraft engines. He was recognized for improving things through new innovation. Chris invented several tools and repair procedures that were patented by Northwest Airlines. He was recognized by the company for his innovations, and retired from Northwest Airlines as head of the engine shop at Northwest's main base at Minneapolis International Airport. After he retired, he worked for the A.J. Spanjers Company and 3M, ways of addressing his Depression era-fostered care of his finances.

Following this retirement Chris and Cordelia moved to Clitherall Lake near Battle Lake, MN. where Chris enjoyed fishing in the summer and winter. He was a skilled fisherman. His skill was learned through the need to help augment his father and mother in feeding their family. He also enjoyed hunting deer, pheasants and especially, ducks. He liked to play cards and loved to play cribbage. Chris was also a volunteer. He knew he was blessed with good health and shared his time and abilities with others. Chris never met a stranger; he loved to visit with people, and always made a person's day a little brighter when he visited with them. Chris was a blessing to his family and friends.

On Saturday, December 3, 2016 Chris died at the age of one hundred years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cordelia; two sons, Paul and Ferdinand; one granddaughter, Teresa Lorsung; brothers, Peter, Nick, August, Anthony "Swede" and Andrew Lorsung; sisters, Katherine Sellergren, Rose Rudolphi and Mildred Corcoran.
