Clare Irene (Germundson) Neby was born on December 8, 1907 in Kenyon, MN to Mons and Lillie Germundson in Kenyon, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Dale Church in rural Kenyon. After graduating grade school, she moved to Minneapolis to attend Central High School where she lived with her aunt and uncle. During school she worked at an art studio decorating greeting cards and other miscellaneous articles. She also assisted her aunt at a beauty shop. Clare was united in marriage to Elmer Neby on August 11, 1928 in Kenyon, MN at her parents home. The couple made their home in Minneapolis where they lived for many years. Clare worked at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing until Clare and Al were blessed with three children, Ted, Barbara and Marilyn. In 1947, the family moved to Alexandria. Along with being a dedicated homemaker she worked at numerous jobs in the Alexandria area. Clare loved flowers, playing golf, bridge, Vikings football, music and dancing. She was a loyal and active member of First Lutheran Church and Bethesda Lutheran Church. Clare died on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Knute Nelson at the age of One Hundred and Two. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Vern) Sieling of Pensacola, Fl; seven grandchildren, Neil, Scott, Dayne, Jan, Mike, Brian, and Anne; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Clare is preceded in death by her husband, Elmer (Al); daughter, Marilyn Gustafson; son, Ted Neby; grandsons, Mark Neby, Erik Neby, Craig Sieling; and brothers, Elmer and Charles Germundson. A funeral service was held on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Knute Nelson Chapel in Alexandria with Reverend James Oakland officiating. Music was provided by organist, Linda Isdahl. Interment was held in Kinkead Cemetery in Alexandria. Casket bearers were Neil Sieling, Scott Sieling, Dayne Sieling, Mike Gustafson, and Brian Gustafson.
