Claudia Marie (Goche) Weiers was born on July 16, 1954 to Marcella (Heiderscheidt) and Dennis Goche in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She was one of four children born to the couple and attended school in Wabasso, graduating with the class of 1972. Growing up, Claudia learned to bake from her mother, which is something she would enjoy doing throughout her lifetime – especially during Christmas when she would make hundreds of cookies for her children and grandchildren.
After completing high school in Minnesota, Claudia moved to Chicago where she nannied two young boys for a year. From there, she moved to New Ulm and started working in production at 3M. It was there she met Gordie Weiers who also worked at the plant as an electronics technician. Soon after their meeting the two went on their first date, racoon hunting. They were then later engaged at the boundary waters and married on May 20, 1978. For many years Claudia would still frequently hunt with the family hounds – with or without Gordie, and the couple would eventually enjoy sharing in the experience with their children.
Claudia worked at 3M alongside Gordie until 1980 when she became pregnant with their first child. Gordie and Claudia would welcome three children and were able to experience several communities as a family. Together, they moved to Hutchinson in 1988, Ames, Iowa in 1995, and then settled in Alexandria in 1998. As her children became more independent Claudia worked at Broadway Floral, Lincoln Elementary, and eventually Viking Bank – where she retired after twelve years of employment in 2014.
Claudia loved her family and travelling, and it was even better if she could enjoy both at the same time. Throughout her retirement, Claudia orchestrated many family trips, her favorites being Hawaii and Florida. And, she was always great at making sure everyone was included. Almost as much as vacationing somewhere warm in the winter, Claudia loved country music. She loyally attended WE Fest for fifteen years, got to see Miranda Lambert and Garth Brooks in Las Vegas, and was gifted tickets to the CMT Music Awards. She and Gordy also enjoyed stopping in Nashville with each drive to Florida. Claudia also loved her garden. Her flowers were her pride and joy.
On September 17, 2024 Claudia was relieved of her suffering after battling a long illness. Welcoming her into heaven are her parents, Marcella and Dennis Goche; mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Helen Weiers, brothers-in-law: Steve Zick, Ronald Martin, Dale Finnesgaard; two nephews; along with many other relatives and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Gordon Weiers of Alexandria; children: Amber (Shawn) Barbarick, Tricia (Jackson) Kriel, Tyler (Lindsey) Weiers; grandchildren: Kendra and Kaitlyn Barbarick, Benjamin and Abraham Weiers, Wesley and Rory Kriel; brother, Kevin (Ann) Goche; sisters: Carmen Zick and Connie Martin; along with many other cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
