Clifford A. “Punt” Peterson Jr., was born on November 24,1925, to Clifford A. Peterson Sr., and Mabel (Broms) Peterson in Alexandria, Minnesota. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1943. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Michaelson, on July 9, 1948. To this union two children were born, Marcia Jane and Thomas Clifford.
Clifford’s first love was his family, his Lord and his church. He was baptized in 1935 at the First Baptist Church in Alexandria. As a member he served for many years as a trustee, sang in the church choir and was a member of the building committee when the church was first built. He later became a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he was instrumental in the founding of the church.
Clifford served in the Navy, trained in the Seabees division for three years from 1943 to 1946, after which he attended North Dakota State University. He became a partner in Peterson Drug, which was founded by his grandfather in 1906. Peterson Drug was a partnership between Clifford, his father, Clifford Sr., brother, Dick and son, Tom. He also served two terms on the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Board, the Alexandria Board of Developers and the Kinkead Cemetery Association, where he was President for several years. Clifford also was a member of the Kiwanis, Golden K and the American Legion.
Clifford passed away on March 5, 2016 at the Knute Nelson Home at the age of 90. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty seven years, Ruth; his daughter, Marcia (Owen) Peterson of St. Cloud, his son, Thomas (Lori) Peterson of Gilbert, AZ; four grandchildren, Christian (Angela) Peterson and Meggie (Jonathan) Solorzano of Gilbert, AZ, Kara (Mike) Schroeder of Ham Lake, MN, and Stacy (C.J.) VanSluytman of Pittsburgh, PA; eight greatgrandchildren; brother, Dick (Phyllis) Peterson of Windsor, CO; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
