Collette Bertha Kraemer was born on October 14, 1923, the daughter of Peter and Rose (Turchin) Bitzan in Millerville Township. She was baptized at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Millerville. She attended Country School District #56 in Millerville Township and was active in 4H as a young girl. She also played the banjo in the family dance band called the “Western Ramblers.” As a teenager she worked as a nanny and waitress.
On October 28, 1946, Collette was united in marriage to Cornelius Frank Kraemer of Urbank. After their marriage the couple moved to Alexandria where they raised their three sons: John, Thomas, Joseph. Besides raising her three sons Collette also did daycare, worked at American Cleaners for 23 years as a counter clerk, did mission sewing and was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts. Collette was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Christian Mothers, American Legion & VFW Auxiliaries. She loved fishing and dancing with Cornelius and working in her flower garden.
Collette died on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. She is survived by her sons: John (Doris), Tom (DeeAnn), Joe (Kristi); seven grandchildren: Mike (Angie), Matthew (Gretchen), Jeffrey, Gregory, Christian, Catherine, Mary Kraemer; three step grandchildren: Christine (Stuart) Fleischauer, Jamie & Aaron (Conni) Arvig; great grandson, Tyler Kraemer, great granddaughter, Brielle Kraemer; step great grandchildren: Gibson, Garrison, Calista and Macy Fleischauer, Cooper, Bentley Arvig.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius; sister, Irma Foslien; brothers Leonard, Richard and Bernie Bitzan
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. Entombment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
