Curtis Wayne Finkelson was born October 16, 1943 to Manfred and Ione (Torgrimson) Finkelson in Fergus Falls, MN. He grew up on a farm in Ashby. In 1946, his sister Linda was born. He helped his parents by working on the family farm, milking cows and working in the fields. Curt attended the country school near Ashby through 8th grade and then attended Ashby Public Schools, graduating in 1961. He then attended Alexandria Technical Institute in the Partsman Training Program in 1964 and graduated in 1965.
Curt met the love of his life, Sharon Johnson, from Parkers Prairie at the college mixer. They dated and were married at First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie on April 2, 1966. Curt and Sharon moved to Minneapolis in 1967. They were blessed with three children. Daughter Teresa was born in 1968, son Keith was born in 1972 and daughter Sheila was born in 1974.
In 1977, Curt and Sharon started the next exciting chapter of their life when they bought a home in Alexandria across from the Arrowwood Golf Course. Curt co-owned Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts Store and later worked many years at Douglas Machine, where he retired in 2009.
Curt loved playing with their kids, grandkids and great grandkids. He enjoyed deer hunting, riding his Harley, going fishing, snowmobiling and hanging out with his friends. Highlights each summer included camping with family at Lake Carlos State Park, attending We Fest and Winstock with Sharon and many close friends. Curt was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge and enjoyed volunteering at the Youth Outdoor Activity Day.
Curtis passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at St. Cloud Hospital; he was 80 years old. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 58 years, Sharon Finkelson of Alexandria; sister: Linda Jensen; children: Teresa (Dennis) Mohs, Keith (Jennifer) Finkelson, Sheila (Kent) Larson; grandchildren: Brittany, Jordan (Brianna), Nicole, Hunter, Austin, Melania, Jackson; great-grandchildren: Briella, Avayah, Jaylen; nephew: Brent (Jessica) Jensen as well as many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Manfred and Ione Finkelson; brother-in-law Maynard Jensen; and nephew, Blaine Jensen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 15, 2024, 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church with a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Please note date changeMonday, April 15, 2024
