Curtis John Stoeckel was born on May 14, 1944 in Osakis, Minnesota to Harold and Ina (Bartz) Stoeckel. He graduated Osakis High School in 1962 and went on and received a degree in surveying. Curtis was united in marriage to Diane Nelson on May 23, 1964 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria. The couple made their home in Alexandria and was blessed with 3 children, Sheri, Cindy and John. In 1965, Curtis started working for Hall Engineering as a surveyor. Curtis then started his own business, Stoeckel Land Surveying in 1978. The family also started and owned Alexandria Mini Golf and Amusement Park, which was owned until 1999, which we now know as Casey?s Amusement Park. Diane died on May 15, 1988. Curtis married Kathleen Warzecha on June 13, 1989 on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth. Curtis and Kathy made their home in Alexandria where Curtis continued his work with his surveying company. In May of 2009, Curtis retired from his company. Curtis enjoyed photography, woodworking, and traveling. He enjoyed life, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Curtis died on Friday, March 11, 2011 in Yelapa, Mexico at the age of 66. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy of Alexandria; children, Sheri (Pete) Friederichs of Foxhome, MN and their children, Ava, Brooke, Mariah, and Isabel; Cindy (Scott) Brown of Belgrade, MT and their children, Madison and Oliver; John (Cristina) Stoeckel of Minneapolis and their children, Walter and Franklin; step-children, Kim (Kevin) Kampa of St. Cloud and their children, Grace and Joseph; Kristine Brugh of St. Cloud and her children, Taylor and Tanner; and Mike (Jennifer) Koenig of Sauk Rapids and their children, Braden and Colton; sisters, Patricia (Louis) Mohawk of Onamia and Ruth (David) Jackson of St. Cloud,; brother, Robert (Toni) Stoeckel of St. Cloud; and numerous nieces and nephews. Curtis is preceded in death by his wife, Diane; and parents, Harold and Ina. A memorial service will be held 10 AM on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church with Reverend John Martinson officiating. Music was provided by Justin Peterson, Bob Wilken, Bill Riggs, Al Loeffer, and Kori Williams. Inurnment will be held in Geneva Cemetery in Alexandria. Honorary urn bearers will be Stoeckel Surveying Crew, Mark Jahner, Dean Jahner, Jerry Nelson, Damon Sweep, Dennis Gulbranson, and Jim Wicklund. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
