Dale Ernest Ellison was born on December 10, 1936, to Ernest and Evelyn (Ormbreck) Ellison of Elbow Lake, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm and attended country school through the 6th grade. Dale graduated from Herman High School in 1955 where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. His college years were spent at Hamline University and St. Cloud State where he graduated with a BS in Medical Technology.
Dale married his Highschool sweetheart Janet Churchill on August 31, 1957. To this union five children were born: Tim & Carol (Gadow), Scott & Judy (Davidson), Tom & Julie (Cymbaluk) Pam & Ken Litke, Beth Johnson and nine grandchildren.
After graduating he worked one year at the St. Cloud Hospital. They moved to Alexandria in 1961 where Dale started working at the Douglas County Hospital as a Laboratory Supervisor. He spent a year as a salesman for Aloe Scientific then returned to the Douglas County Hospital.
Dale was a friendly man who loved talking and sharing many stories with friends and family. Often being one of the last to leave a social event because he had one more person to talk to.
Dale loved anything outdoors: he enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and he never missed an opener. He spent a lot of years playing various sports, including volleyball, softball, racquetball, shooting trap and was a high school official for football and volleyball. He also was an official for rec volleyball and softball.
Dale died on Monday, November 9, 2015 at his home. He is survived by his wife, Janet; five children, and nine grandchildren; siblings, Ed & Barb (Newberger) Ellison, Sharon Cadwell, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Evelyn and Ernest Ellison.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015, 4:00-7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 4:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, November 13, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alexandria. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to: Douglas County Hospital Medical Oncology, Knute Nelson Home Care & Hospice, Alexandria Area High School Wrestling Team.
