Dale Hobbs

November 8, 1934 — May 11, 2010

Dale Wesley Hobbs was born on November 8, 1934 in Adams, Nebraska the son of Earl and Louise (Rathe) Hobbs. He graduated from Barneston High School and following graduation enlisted in the United States Army. On February 27, 1960, Dale was united in marriage to Francis Burns in Tecumseh, Nebraska. This union was blessed with four sons. In November of 1969, the family moved to a farm near Leaf Valley where Dale farmed until 1982. On June 4, 1977, Dale married Kay Rutten. In 1989, Dale became the caretaker of Kinkead Cemetery. He was caretaker for a few years before retiring and just helping out when he was needed. Dale was always willing to take a chance -- some examples of this were his willingness to try new things such as dog breeding, sheep farming, buying and trading real estate, selling used cars. He was always in search of his next great adventure. Dale was also known as the man who could fix anything. If you ever had a question about how something worked all you had to do was call Dale. He also enjoyed wintering in Texas and Missouri, going for drives, going to the casinos, playing cards and helping local farmers with their fieldwork. Dale loved to hunt and golf but his greatest joy was when his family ? especially the grandchildren came to visit. Dale died on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the age of 75, at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Kay; sons: Daniel Hobbs of Shakopee, MN, Christopher (Patty) of Parkers Prairie; daughter, Melissa (Andrew) Taylor of Melbourne, Australia; step-daughters: Sue (Jim Wegscheider) Schneiderhan of Belle River, Jill Rasmusson of Parkers Prairie, MN, Jan (Patrick) Lindquist of Parkers Prairie; step-sons: Ron Schneiderhan (Faith Jaeger) of Alexandria, Scott Schneiderhan of Mathis, TX; brothers: Russell (Donna) Hobbs of Columbus, NE; Wayne (Barb) Hobbs of Cross Timbers, MO; sister, Ardythe (Marvin) Bargman of Hermitage, MO; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis; sons: David and Douglas; parents and step-son, Jack Schneiderhan. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary?s Church in Alexandria.
