The memorial service for Dale Warren Vipond of Alexandria MN, formerly of Herman, Minnesota will be held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN, with the Reverend Dave Wangaard officiating. Visitation will be at 9:30 am prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Herman, MN. Dale Warren Vipond, (Chub) was born March 10, 1931, to Lester and Anna (Miller) Vipond at his parents home just outside of Herman. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman. Dale attended Herman Public School. Dale and June (Sjoquist) were married on December 19, 1955 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Herman. To this union three children were born. Dale was a carpenter and built many homes, apartment buildings, pole barns, and cabinets. He and his brother Bob owned the Herman Lumber and True Value store. Dale was a member of the Herman School Board, Booster Club, Bethlehem Lutheran Church Board and Herman Fire Department. Chub retired in 1996 when he and June moved to Alexandria to take in the area lakes, golf and enjoy their retirement years. He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing and golfing. His children and grandchildren have many pieces of furniture that he made especially for them. He was a huge Twins, Vikings and Gopher fan and any activity that his grandchildren participated in. He made the best walleye around and the greatest orange gum drop cookies you ever had. Dale died peacefully on Monday, March 6, 2012 under the care of Douglas County Hospice at Grand Arbor in Alexandria, Minnesota. He was 80 years old. He is survived by his wife, June; three children Cindy (Sylvan) Prothero of Norcross, Jim (Kris) Vipond of Chaska, Gary (Kris) Vipond of Sibley, IA; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Katie, Rachel, Jacob, Jennifer and Stephanie; one great-granddaughter, Bailey; two brothers, Les (Ruth) Vipond of Elbow Lake, and Denny (Faye) Vipond of Herman; and by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mildred and brothers: Donald, Stanley, Kenneth, Richard and Robert. Committal at Lakeside Cemetary, Herman, Minnesota at 2:30 PM. All are invited to the Prothero?s home in Norcross following the committal. In lieu of thank yous, the family will be making donations to various charities.
