Daniel Octave DeVolder was born Dec. 27, 1933 in Pomeroy, Iowa to Octave and Marie DeVolder. After graduation from Pomeroy High School, Dan married Jean Eike in 1956. They had three sons: David, Rick, Steven. A tragic car accident, took Jean’s life in 1967.
Dan worked for the railroad as an agent operator from 1952 to 1966 and a bookkeeper for Farm Service from 1966-1970.
On February 1, 1969, Dan married JoAnn Hoffman. In a compassionate and gracious gesture, Dan adopted her sons, Mike and Mark. From 1970-1994, Dan was the business office manager for the Times Republican Newspaper. Besides traveling to audit books for the newspaper, he kept his gun ready in case his employer (and friend) told him the ducks and geese had landed. The two had many tales of their hunting adventures.
Everyone who knew Dan, knew that his favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing and his dogs; he could talk about those topics for hours! But if you wanted to see a smile or a tear, get him talking about his sons and the grandchildren.
Dan was a quiet man. He loved his Lord and he knew where he was going. He also adored, loved and cherished his wife and constant companion, JoAnn.
Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean, twin brothers, infant brother, sister, two daughter-in-laws, and brother-in-laws.
Dan DeVolder is survived by his sons: David (Valarie) of LeGrand, IA, Rick of Marshalltown, IA, Steven (Stephanie) of Des Moines, IA, Mike of Naples, FL, and Mark of Vernon, B.C.
Grandchildren: Chad (Lindsey) DeVolder, Kim (Ryan) Mehalovich and their children Janie and Rylie, Chara (Johan) Santacruz, Elya DeVolder, Russell (Renae) DeVolder, Beth (Wade) Judge and their children Aidan, Finley, and Declan, Ross (Jodi) DeVolder and their daughter Maren.
