Daniel John was born on December 25th 1932, in Fort Ripley, Minnesota, the son of Joseph and Lucy (Weymann) Reis. As a young boy his family lived in Camp Ripley and they later moved to Staples. He attended Pillager School where he graduated in 1950.
After graduation Daniel served in the Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. On May 21st 1955, Dan was united in marriage to Kathleen Ann Thesing at St. Mathias Catholic Church. After their marriage the couple continued to live in the Twin Cities and six months later bought a gas station and bar in Hanley Falls. In 1957, they purchased a garage/gas station in Carlos, Minnesota where they raised their four wonderful sons.
Dan loved life, the Lord and his family. Some of the things he enjoyed doing were hunting, fishing, traveling, water skiing, and repairing things. Dan was a member of the Carlos Fire Department for 45 years and he was also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. One of his favorite hobbies in life was flying his own airplane especially to Canada to go moose hunting. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Pine River and their lake lot during his spare time. He loved to socialize with friends at Herbies.
Danny died on Tuesday, January 6th, 2015. He is survived by sons: Gary (JoAnne), Greg (Rosie), Doug (Delene), Jeffry (Laurie); grandchildren: Nolan Reis, Lance Reis, Nicolas & Brenda Reis, David Reis, Danielle Reis, Dana Reis & fiancANLGAC., Dalton Frovarp; great grandchild: Kaika Reis; brother Louis and sister Anita. Preceded in death by: wife Kathleen; brothers: Romie, Melvin, Donald, Jimmy and Joseph; sisters: Geraldine and Rosemary.
